The first fight of Dun Scaith scared the shit out of me the first time I did it - I think I died more times in that fight than I had playing the game up until that point. Still terrified of going back and actually learning how the hell I'm supposed to read his shenanigans.

There are legitimately *so many* that if you're interested in actually changing the game significantly there's more than I could even think to describe. The mod scene for FF7 is insane.

If you're looking more for a purist approach like I did (basically just getting the best version of the original game possible) then 100% go with The Reunion and Satsuki Yatoshi's Upscale Mod. The Reunion is several mods packaged together, some of which you may want to turn off like updated models, framerate tweaks and a difficulty mod.

The stuff from Reunion you'll definitely want are a vastly improved script, myriad fixes for menus and a complete audio overhaul. Satsuki's mod is a deep learning pass on all of the game's pre-rendered backgrounds and cutscenes, producing some really fantastic results. Combine all of that stuff and you've got a completely brilliant way of reexperiencing the game.

I haven't started any of these yet but the consensus appears to be pretty solid! Only real issue is the menu/fonts, which had a day 1 workaround as you'd expect. Outside of that, they apparently have some nice little quality of life bumps here and there, exceptional music and even a surprisingly great CRT filter to drive the (already solid IMO) graphics home.

Excited for NMH3 but I don't trust the Switch to be able to run it acceptably so I'll probably end up waiting on that.

12 Minutes seems really cool, interested in that for sure.

Feels weird that Psychonauts 2 is really coming out after all this time - I feel a little wary but I'll definitely play it if it reviews well.

Damn, wasn't at all expecting free updates or even dlc for this. Awesome to see. IMO this game already utterly blasted the original out of the water with the sheer weight of its content, so this is pushing that even further.

i replayed ff9 recently on steam. impossible to get it working with a controller. it wanted left and right to be bound to the left thumbstick, and up and down to be bound to the right thumbstick. i normally use DS4Windows to remap things like that, but ff9 in particular had its own system that interfered and would cause double/multiple presses.

Steam has native DS4 and Dualsense support at this point - using external drivers really only gets in the way. There shouldn't be any controller issues with FF9 on PC but if you did run into an issue you could create a Steam controller profile for the game to fix them.

Absolutely incredible story, easily one of the best in the medium. Glad you enjoyed it so much! You're absolutely right that the gameplay is actually really great as well, for what there is of it. The other two games in the series really pale in comparison in that department.

For 1-6, as others have said, it might be worth waiting on the new remasters.

7: PC with mods (Mods are utterly transformative here, even if you're being a purist and not changing anything major)

8: I've heard mixed things about the Remaster but haven't played it myself, so I'm not sure. Either that or the old Steam release with mods

9: PC with mods (Not quite as transformative as 7, but the Moguri Mod does this game a ton of favors.)

10: Any version of the HD Remaster, doesn't really matter

11: No idea what's going on with this game at this point

12: PC, no mods needed

13: PC with mods - again not quite as wild as with 7, but mods make this game look like it could have come out last week.

14: PC

15: PC, no mods needed

Watched this tonight and thought it was pretty bad, to be honest.

The start had a pretty cool feeling and was pretty engaging but as things went on it just started to feel weighed down by so much wasted potential and generally poor writing. By the end I was really bored and just waiting for it to be over.

So much little wasted stuff like the jacket pockets joke and all of Red Guardian's ridiculous stories. Like I was expecting those to result in a moment where a vial gets pulled out of one of those pockets for a last second save or a cool moment where Red Guardian is able to fend off Taskmaster because of his dumb Captain America stories, but no. None of that stuff comes back in any meaningful way and is just pointless dialogue.

On the opposite end you had a lot of stuff that comes out of nowhere with no proper set up, like the masks switcheroo or Taskmaster being able to copy stuff just because, or villain-whose-name-I-literally-can't-even-remember having a pheromone defense just because he does.

It's not the worst Marvel movie nor is it actively bad, but IMO this was just barely passable without any actively bad parts - I'd give it a 5/10.

Over time I've played quite a few including FGO, Granblue Fantasy, KHUX, Dragalia Lost, Fire Emblem Heroes, Shadowverse, Cytus 2 and a few others.

Actively I think I capped out at a mix of three of those. Today I play zero of them and life is significantly better. With the exception of Shadowverse and Cytus, every game I named there is legit poison that (to varying degrees) cares more about psychologically and financially manipulating its playerbase than actually just being a good game. I don't want to ever play another gacha as long as I live.

Beat HW and am doing 3.X shenanigans now, it's hard to tear away from this game to play other stuff! My goal is to fully complete the MSQ before Endwalker drops. Seems quite doable even at a leisurely pace but this is a lot of game.

I'm about four hours into this and I'm really, really liking what I'm seeing. Feels wild (and really good) to be playing a legit new AA IP in 2021 that's willing to do the stuff this game is doing. Combat is delightful so far with lots of neat systems at play, and the world is quite intriguing.

Haven't posted in here for a long while but I did end up subscribing and am currently absolutely devouring Heavensward. Just passed Bismarck, things have slowed down a little bit but everything between The Aery and The Vault was legit 10/10. Can't wait to get back to those highs, as I feel confident will happen after this rising action.

On the gameplay front I've been playing DRG from the outset and its kind of wild how much more engaging the HW kit is compared to the ARR kit. Interested to see how the remaining stuff changes it - my impression is it never gets any less linear but it has enough buttons to press to stay fun. I'm certainly enjoying it thus far!

My mistake, all the games seem to review around the same level and I recall hearing lots of complaints about the series in the past decade or so!

Fans are generally positive about all of the games in this window, save Zestiria, but every one of them after Vesperia has been either rushed, low budget or both. Arise is the first game since 2009 that really looks poised to actually be high quality throughout with no caveats.

Thanks for the heads up! Time to finally check this out. KH3 makes all this mobile stuff seem like it'll be very important to the future of the series, so it's great to have a way to check it out without actually playing this gross cash-grabby, power-creepy game.

I've always been fascinated by the glowing praise from folks who get this procedure, but also I really love glasses aesthetically to the point that I think I look weird without them. If I did do this I'd probably end up wearing empty frames!

The actual systems in place for this game seemed pretty darn good based on the demo but yeah the writing seemed super questionable and the frame rate on last gen consoles bordered on unplayable for me personally.

This probably isn't the real answer, but shout out to Guilty Gear's Sol arc that started in 1998, spanned almost every possible form of media alongside semi-regular game releases and finally finished last week.

Bloodborne comes to mind if we're being really strict on all the rules. Yeah it's pretty much a Souls game but it's technically not.

You'll see this on the SotFS page of that site, but I suppose one word of caution is that the game doesn't have M&K key prompts so that could be a little confusing if you're not using a controller. That's always seemed like a really rough way to play these games to me but I know there are some people that do it!

Dark Souls Prepare to Die Edition is the only PC port that's completely borked in this series. SotFS is fine on PC, go enjoy that smooth frame rate.

I'm elated that FF7R is finally coming to PC and all but it's kind of incredible how Squeenix is literally quadruple dipping on a single release in a span of two years with all these exclusivity agreements. PS4 -> PS5 -> Epic -> Steam (and potentially multiplatform)

(I guess this being found here doesn't necessarily mean it's EGS exclusive but given their recent behavior I'd be surprised if it's not.)

The complete lack of communication on the demo being literally unplayable is a pretty bad look. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if this game plays way, way better than that trailer made it look, but as things are they're just letting people stew in negativity on this one.

Can't wait for Squeenix to stop cashing in exclusive money so I can finally play this game! (I fully expect this to be announced as an EGS exclusive in six months, though, so we're technically still not done even then.)

I liked this a good bit, though I played on Game Pass so I was probably easier to please than had I dropped $60 on it.

I think a lot of the mixed reaction comes from people getting hyped that this was going to be a Silent Hill clone when really it's more of a spooky point and click that happens to have Akira Yamaoka co-composing.
